Description

We are pleased to invite you to “Reveal Ed: A Conversation about Teaching Media Literacy and Critical Thinking in the Classroom,” held by The Center for Investigative Reporting.

As the nation’s first nonprofit investigative newsroom, CIR produces “Reveal,” a podcast listened to by millions of Americans each week. Educators across the country are beginning to use the show to teach critical thinking and media literacy in their classrooms, and we want to further understand how we can help build a deeper understanding of the role of media in society.

With a focus on discussing the challenges and possible solutions around teaching these crucial issues, this session will be results-oriented and interactive, paying close attention to how educators connect with students in a meaningful way around the validity of news sources as well as instilling essential skills of inquiry for citizens of a democracy.

Presenters include:

Joaquin Alvarado: CEO, CIR

AJ Brantley: English instructor, Fresno City College

Tim Haydock: Program director, YouthWire

Beth Mily: CEO, Geekwise Academy

Cole Goins: Director of community engagement, CIR

Adam Higginbotham: Government and economics teacher, Law, Order & Policy Lab at the Center for Advanced Research and Technology
