A Retrospective of 2019 General Assembly Elections

Get a behind-the-scenes look at Virginia's General Assembly races at After Virginia Votes, a free public forum organized by the Virginia Public Access Project and hosted by George Mason University's Schar School of Policy and Government.

The program will include a panel discussion moderated by Mark Rozell, Dean and Professor at GMU's Schar School of Policy and Government, and featuring special guests:

  • Matt Moran, Chief of Staff, House Speaker Kirk Cox
  • Kristina Hagen, Executive Director, Senate Democratic Caucus

Their conversation will provide valuable insights into the strategic and tactical decisions faced during the just-completed elections.

The event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited, and registration is required.

Where on the GMU campus will After Virginia Votes be held? 
The event will take place in the Van Metre (formerly Founders) Hall Auditorium.

Is parking available?
Visitor parking is available in the Van Metre Hall garage which is under the GMU Schar School of Public Policy building. There are two payment options:

  • Event Mode: $8 flat fee paid upon entry (credit card (preferred) or cash); access to quicker exit gate when leaving
  • Standard: $3/hour, with daily maximum of $15

The parking lot is accessible from both Washington Boulevard and Fairfax Drive from a side street (Kirkwood Road) and then turning into an alley that runs behind Van Metre Hall.

Where is the closest Metro stop?
Founders Hall is one block east of the Virginia Square/GMU stop on the Orange and Silver Lines.

Is there any cost to attend?
No, After Virginia Votes is a free public forum. If you would like to support the nonprofit Virginia Public Access Project, you can make a donation here.

Will there be food available?
No. Food and beverages are not permitted in the auditorium.

Will I be able to ask the panelists questions during the event?,
Yes, the last 20 minutes of the program will consist of questions collected from the audience. You will also be able to submit questions to the panelists ahead of the event.
