How to Go Beyond “Meetings” to Create a Fresh Expressions of Healing

About this event

2020 was the deadliest year in American history. 3.3 million died, including 93,000 deaths that came from drug overdoses. Local congregations have an opportunity to not only serve those impacted by addiction but to help them to find healing and community. In this track of the Resilient Church Academy, you will discover how any congregation can help people move from lonely addiction to a Jesus-shaped community.

SESSIONS

January 11 - Session 1: Why Recovery?

Now a mainstream and secularized movement, the 12 Steps and Alcoholics Anonymous grew out of the desire for addicts to experience Christian community. This session will explore the Biblical and historical roots of the recovery movement, explore the ways that pharmaceutical companies are fueling addiction and discuss how local churches can be involved.

January 18 - Session 2: Cultivating Fresh Expressions of Recovery

Recovery is just one element of a "blended ecology of church," a model for a local congregation where fresh and traditional expressions of church work hand in hand. This session will introduce you to the Blended Ecology and how to apply fresh expressions processes to forming robust Christian communties for those in recovery.

January 25 - Session 3: Essential Skills for Recovery Leaders and Congregations

For most established congregations, loving, serving and incorporating those in recovery into the life of a local church will require new skills. In this session, you'll learn how to equip recovery leaders and congregational leaders who embrace them.
