Event description
Disciple Making in a New Era

About this event

With families slow to return and enlisting volunteers harder than ever, it feels like children's ministry doesn't work the way it did before the pandemic. You are still passionate about serving families and helping to disciple children, and now you have the opportunity to reevaluate your approach. This track of the Resilient Church Academy will include three sessions designed to help you explore insights, strategies and practical tools for Rethinking Children’s and Family Ministry in your context.

DETAILS

  • Thursdays from 11am-1pm Eastern
  • January 13 / 20 / 27
  • Presenters: Lora Gravatt

SESSIONS

January 13 - Session 1: Reset Your Strategy

Now is the time to get clear about your “why” and your "how". Instead of trying to pick up where we left off before COVID, we'll consider what it takes to effectively connect kids and families to God and ultimately make disciples of Jesus. We will ask the tough strategic questions: what should stay, what needs to go and what can be tweaked?

January 20 - Session 2: Reimagine Your Volunteer Teams

The best way to lead a kid to faith is introduce them to someone who loves God. What if the church could catch the vision for investing in the next generation? What if we understood our serving as part of our own discipleship? Let’s talk about what transformational volunteer teams look like: how to create them, disciple them and celebrate them.

January 27 - Session 3: Reenage Your Children and Families

Even before the pandemic, kids and families are busy. But what happens when church is no longer top on the list—or not on the list at all? Let’s talk about how do we connect with kids and engage our families to ensure the next generation is discipled in a post-Christian environment.

She is responsible for leading all ministries related to children through adults and supervises the Discipleship Ministry team consisting of 5 ministers/directors, 40 weekday preschool staff teachers, over 300 volunteer leaders and teachers who serve 800 children and students weekly. As the Discipleship ministry architect, she has led her team to create and implement such initiatives as Project 78, Waypoints, Parent Equipping, MOPS, the Church+Home Partnership and Columbia’s discipleship strategy for making Whole Life Disciples. A philosophy that is now being considered for a Multi-siting strategy.
