The great prophet of the poor of the last century, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., would support Restore Together which is in the same tradition of his “Poor People’s Campaign” in Washington, DC just prior to his death in 1968. In the 21st Century there is an all-out assault on the poor. And that assault is global, systemic, digital, immoral and effective. These factors and many others conjoin to make these very trying, desperate, and difficult times for the poor – and especially the growing numbers of urban poor of all ethnic and racial groups. Restore Together is a digital community that calls for the collaboration of the church and the world for beneficial social change. At our Martin Luther King, Jr. 2014 Prayer Breakfast we will honor change agents like we did Congressman John Lewis, Dr. William B. McClain and others at the 2013 Breakfast. Performing at this years Breakfast will be Traces of Blue formerly Afro Blue of "The Sing Off on NBC," and the Jazz Psalmist and Stellar Award Nominated Todd Ledbetter.
2014 Panelist and Honorees include Joshua Dubois (Former White House Head of Faith Based Initiatives), Dorothy Gilliam (Legendary Washington Post Journalist), Congressman Elijah Cummings, Rev. Dr. Ronald and Rev. Dr. Marie Braxton (Pastor & Asst. Pastor Historic Metropolitan AME Church), David McAllister-Wilson (President, Wesley Theoligical Seminary), and Rev. Brenda Girton-Mitchell (Center for Faith Based Partnerships USDOE). The proceeds are used to end poverty and oppression globally.
