Event description

Description

This June, we completed our biggest restoration project in many years. We removed two culverts on Mitchell Creek that had created a large pond. This pond not only blocked fish passage, but it heated up the pond--and the creek downstream--to lethal temperatures. The pond is now gone, and we’ve added large wood structures to provide habitat for the “new” stream channel. There’s also a new floodplain wetland that’s now connected to the stream system. Over the next few years, we’ll be revegetating the site with trees, shrubs and herbaceous wetland vegetation.

Come join us: we’ll carpool in a school bus from Foster Floodplain! Registration is required. All are welcome.

Thank you to to partners and funders: Centennial School District, Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board, Oregon Dept. of Environmental Quality, East Multnomah SWCD, Metro, PGE & TNC, US Fish & Wildlife Service, for making this project a reality!
