Tim Miller will be hosting Virginia Dignum in a dynamic Q&A on all things Ethics and AI.

Light catering and drinks will be served from 18.00 with the Q&A commencing between 18.30- 19.00

Professor Virginia Dignum, Wallenberg Chair of Social and Ethical Artificial Intelligence, Umeå University, Sweden

Virginia Dignum is Professor of Social and Ethical AI at Umeå University in Sweden, and also associated with the Institute of Design for Values of the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. Her research focuses on value-sensitive design of intelligent systems and multi-agent organisations, in particular on the ethical and societal impact of AI. She is a Fellow of the European Artificial Intelligence Association (EURAI) and has been vice president of the BNVKI (Benelux AI Association). In 2006, she was awarded the prestigious Veni grant from NWO (Dutch Organization for Scientific Research) for her work on agent-based organizational frameworks. She is a well-known speaker on the social and ethical impacts of Artificial Intelligence and is a member of the reviewing boards for all major journals and conferences in AI. Currently, she is a member of the High-Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence from the European Commission, is member of the Executive Committee of the IEEE Initiative on Ethics of Autonomous Systems, and sits in the scientific boards of the Delft Design for Values Institute, the AI4People - European Global Forum on AI, and the Responsible Robotics Foundation.

Tim is an Associate Professor in Computer Science at the University of Melbourne. His work is at the intersection of artificial intelligence, interaction design, and cognitive science/psychology. With areas of education, expertise is in artificial intelligence, software engineering, and technology innovation.
