Description

On January 28th, we are looking forward to hosting a panel of professionals and students to discuss what anti-Semitism looks like in collegiate settings, having intellectual discussions around BDS, and how to respond to instances of hate on campuses.

Stephanie Hausner

Deputy Director

Israel Action Network

Stephanie is the Deputy Director of Jewish Federation of North America’s Israel Action Network. She is responsible for strengthening the capacity of local community professionals in countering the assault on Israel’s legitimacy and is IAN's main point of contact for Federations and JCRCs. She oversees the community strategy team, campus/community relations, and legislation. Stephanie came to IAN after working in the Federation system in various capacities. A former Councilwoman in the town of Clarkstown, she was named one of Rockland County’s “40 under 40″ in 2010 and in 2013 was included in “The Jewish Week 36 under 36.”

Hela Lahar

Director of the Center for Israel Education

Columbia/Barnard Hillel

Hela Lahar, joined the Columbia/Barnard Hillel team as the Director of the Center for Israel Education in the summer of 2016, when she moved to NYC from Kibbutz Lehavot-Haviva, Israel. Prior to moving to NYC, Hela was the director of the Jewish Peoplehood Education Center, which she founded, at the Israeli Movement for Progressive and Reform Judaism. Hela was the Director of the Israel Center at Hillel of Greater Philadelphia from 2007-2010, serving as a Jewish Agency emissary, immediately after graduating Tel Aviv University with a Masters in Diplomacy and Security studies. For 12 years, Hela worked in a professional capacity, and later as a volunteer, with the nonprofit organization Israeli & European Youth Exchanges (I&EYE), bringing together youth from Israel and the European Union, as a group leader, educator and director of the German desk. Hela is a facilitator with Resetting The Table, which she finds meaningful and inspirational. In her spare time, Hela dabbles in many different arts and crafts and lives in the city with her family.

Mara Davis

Student Leader

NYU Steinhardt

Mara Davis is a senior at NYU Steinhardt majoring in Applied Psychology and minoring in Politics and Media, Culture, and Communications. Upon completion of her Bachelor’s degree she plans on pursuing a dual JD and MBA degree. Mara currently serves as secretary of Realize Israel, the largest Pro-Israel club at NYU, and has been an integral part of fighting BDS initiatives and anti-semitism on campus. She has also been a social media and engagement intern at NYU’s Bronfman Center for Student Life and a Birthright intern.
