RESO DATACOMP: Win up to 25K in Cash

Build an amazing Real Estate product and compete to win up to $25,000 in cash.

Build Anything: Mobile, Web, APP, VR, AR, Hardware - if you can dream it then we want to see you build it.

Dream about changing the real estate industry with an innovative product? Now's your chance to shine and, potentially win up to $25K in Cash! Make your dream a reality! Enter to win up to $25,000 with RESO DataComp '17 today - entries are limited!

The Real Estate Standards Organization, more affectionately known as RESO, is upping the stakes in real estate software. Each year the most important people in real estate, the people who are behind the code of your favorite real estate products, gather each year to help move real estate technology forward.

Change the course of Real Estate history. Real Estate represents one of the most fundamental attributes in the world economy. Unfortunately, innovation is slowed by the difficulty to access essential data. RESO DataComp is working with industry leaders to make this data available to the smartest and most innovative thinkers enabling them to explore new ideas in the world of Real Estate. The mission of DataComp is for bold thinkers to explore the opportunities created when ease of access to data is available. This is open to all technology sectors including mobile, web, VR and AR, device, hardware, and drone applications.

This competition is focused on using RESO compliant APIs. Just a quick history lesson: Before RESO existed most real estate listing data was delivered via "RETS" or the Real Estate Transaction Standard. Without diving too deep into the details this was a cumbersome and outdated way to find real estate data. RESO has ushered in a new and modern approach with their Web API. This allows developers to request listings in real time with out needing to duplicate an entire database.

RESO DATACOMP is working with a handful of providers that are RESO compliant and are approved for use in this competition. You may use an additional source of data to complement your product but you MUST use an approved data API as your main data source.

Spark API

Created by industry software innovator FBS, the Spark Platform inspires real estate innovation. As the industry’s first and most widely utilized listings API, Spark is the benchmark delivering efficiency, streamlined licensing, robust documentation and most importantly, access to the data you need to create awesome products.

Data Available: There are three main categories of data available through the API: Listings, Contacts and Market Stats. The access level to each data type is dependent on the role assigned to each user. For example, members of the MLS can access more listing information than consumers on an IDX web site. More information on roles is here.

Documentation can be found here! https://www.sparkplatform.com/docs/supporting_documentation/api_clients

Tickets - $25

We've teamed up with CoderDojo. Each entry of $25 will go directly to support a coding school put on by CoderDojo. If this event sells out then we will have fully funded an entire day that teaches young people to code. Currently, their tuition is free for students so let's keep it that way! http://coderdojola.com/

EVENT SCHEDULE:

Competition begins on September 18th, 2017 @ 12.01 AM

For your product to be eligible for prize money, you cannot use lines of code written before September 18th, 2017. We'll have an impartial developer review contestants' GitHub account to ensure each team has followed the rules.

For 30 days prior to the LIVE demos taking place on October 17th, 2017 your team can write as much or as little code as they'd like. Prior to the event organizers may request proof that you have a working product or are actively working towards that goal.

October 17, 2017 @ 1:30-4:30PM PST. LIVE DEMOS!

You may not use PowerPoint or Slides. This is not a theoretical contest. You must show a live, working product to be eligible. If you are "faking" your demo (for example if your demo is a video of you running through commands) we will disqualify you. We know that live demos are hard and prone to failure that is why you have 30 days to get it right. Keep in mind you'll be presenting in front of the CEO, CTO, and CIOs of every major real estate company in America. They aren't just influential but will know if you're faking it. Have fun!

Each team will be timed and strictly limited to presentation not exceed 7 Minutes. There will be a short untimed Question and Answer session conducted by judges.

DEMOS will be conducted on stage. You will be provided with an HDMI connection to a projector. Please bring appropriate connectors for your device. We will NOT be responsible for the compatibility of your device. 1hr prior to the live DEMOS each team will be granted time to ensure their devices compatibility with the projector. You should also check to make sure your devices screen resolution is optimal. Additionally, each team will be provided with one microphone. Multiple team members may participate in the presentation but you will only be provided with ONE microphone.
