Description

“When it Gets Hot, Stay Cool... Bayview Style”

Hosted at the Bayview Hunter’s Point YMCA. Click here for map.

Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM (PDT)

As many of you may recall, last year the Bayview experienced the most powerful heatwaves ever recorded in San Francisco. Triple digit heat for days at a time made life miserable for Bayview residents, especially seniors, children and people living with access and functional needs.

This year, thanks to a grant from the Dept. of Public Health, Resilient Bayview is crafting an extreme weather strategy that will make sure that when the heat returns to the community (as soon as May) we’ll be ready to protect the health and well-being of our neighbors.

Over the last few months, under the leadership of Felisia Thibodeaux / GL Hodge / Veronica Shepard, a cohort of agencies, non-profits and universities has come together to craft a strategy that empowers residents, their friends, their service providers and the community at large to prepare for, and respond to, heatwaves.

The first step in advancing this strategy is to convene a workshop with partner agencies, such as yours, to secure your input on our approach. We hope you will join us on April 26th at the Bayview YMCA.

If you have any questions regarding this initiative/event please contact Tre Russell Allen at Russell.Allen@SFGov.org or call 415-554-7011.

Organizer Neighborhood Empowerment Network

Organizer of Resilient Bayview Heatwave Workshop

In 2007, an alliance of residents, neighborhood and merchant associations, non profits and faith based organizations, foundations and academic institutions was created around a simple mission, empowering the neighborhoods of San Francisco with the capacity to steward themselves to a resilient condition. The alliance assumed the name of the Neighborhood Empowerment Network (NEN) and over the last six years it has leveraged the immense resources and expertise within its ranks to create a ground-breaking suite of tools, resources and methodologies to advance resilience at the community level with a bottom-up grassroots approach.
