The MCAS Yuma Chapel is proud to host the Resiliency Retreat at Martinez Lake. This retreat will focus on resiliency, becoming stronger, and never giving up. The event is for all single and married active duty service members and their families of MCAS Yuma and YPG. The retreat will feature various resiliency classes and recreation for adults and children.

Resiliency classes are required for active duty service members and will be the appointed place of duty during the retreat.

No alcohol is permitted at this event to ensure a family-friendly environment.

Items included with your registration:

  • Lodging is provided for 2 nights and includes parking, restrooms, showers and access to the general store for purchase of convenience items. Lodging is first come first served.

  • Food includes 5 meals, snacks, and drinks

  • Transportation is provided from MCAS Yuma to Martinez Lake:

    - Thursday, October 10 at 1400, 1600. No return to MCAS Yuma on this date.

    - Friday, October 11 at 0700, 1100, and leaving for MCAS Yuma at 2100

    - Saturday, October 12 at 0600 and leaving for MCAS Yuma at 1300

  • Recreation equipment from Arizona Adventures includes jet skis, kayaks, paddle boards, fishing gear, mountain bicycles, cornhole, ping pong, and much more.

  • Childcare is provided onsite by MCCS during resiliency classes

  • A fun kid zone with bouncy houses and games will be available

  • Resiliency classes are provided by Navy Chaplains, Mighty Oaks, Marine Corps Family Team Building, FOCUS, Personal Financial Management Program, and Behavioral Health.

  • Resiliency classes by FOCUS are provided to kids 5 years and older. Parents will need to complete Focus Permission/Agreement prior to class DOWNLOAD FORM

What to bring to the retreat

  • Sleeping gear (sleeping bag, air mattress, pillow, bedding)

  • Hydration source (refillable water bottle)

  • Appropriate weather gear (clothes, swimwear, towels)

  • Hygiene gear (toothpaste, toothbrush, razors, shaving cream, etc.)

  • Sun protection (hats, sunscreen, lip balm, sunglasses)

  • Insect protection (bug spray)

Duathlon Competition (10mi mountain bike ride + 3mi run)

  • Duathalon is open to ages 13+

  • Racers will need to sign waivers before the start of the race

  • Duathlon will be timed

  • Mountain bikes will be provided (supplies are limited)

  • Awards for top 3 males and top 3 females

  • Racers will receive a medal

0745-0800 – Introduction to resiliency classes (Chaplain White)

0800-0900 – Class: Character and Discipline (Mighty Oaks)

0900-1100 – Resiliency classes for kids by FOCUS

0900-1000 – Class: Communication and Forgiveness (Chaplain White, Chaplain Jiregna, and Mighty Oaks)

1000-1100 – **Breakout classes

1100-1200 – Lunch

1200-1600 – Recreation

1600-1800 – **Breakout classes

1800-1900 – Dinner

1900-1915 – Class: Ultimate Resiliency (Chaplain White)

1915-2015 – *Class: Legacy (Mighty Oaks)

2015-2200 – S’mores and free time

Saturday, 12 October

0700-0730 – Breakfast

0730-0745 – *Daily Challenge (Mighty Oaks)

0745-0800 – Free time

0800-0945 – Duathlon (10 mile mountain bike and 3 mile run by Semper Fit; Optional) or recreation

0945-1000 – Wrap up to retreat; last words on resiliency (Chaplain White)

1000-1200 – Recreation

1200 – Checkout

1000-1100, choose one of the following classes: (1) Stress Management (MCFTB); (2) Anger Management (Behavioral Health); (3) Money Management (PFMP); (4) *Purity (Mighty Oaks)

1600-1700, choose one of the following classes: (1) 4 Lenses Workshop (MCFTB); (2) Fun and Friendship (MCFTB); (3) Emotional Regulation (FOCUS); (4) *Margin; Money and Possessions (Mighty Oaks)

1700-1800, choose one of the following classes: (1) Marriage Resiliency (Chaplain Ellison); (2) 5 Love Languages (MCFTB); (3) Effective Communication (FOCUS); (4) Parenting (Behavioral Health)

Classes are taught by Navy Chaplains, Mighty Oaks, Marine Corps Family Team Building (MCFTB), Families Overcoming Under Stress (FOCUS), Personal Financial Management Program (PFMP), and Behavioral Health (12 trainers in total). Navy chaplains: Chaplain White, Chaplain Jiregna, and Chaplain Ellison; Mighty Oaks: 3 staff coming; MCFTB: Steve Klauck and Alison Longoria; FOCUS: Beth Fitzgerald and Tori Bourguignon; PFMP: Susan Clarke; Behavioral Health: Rebecca Robinette.

Childcare is available only during classes. Fun kid zone and resiliency classes are provided for kids.

Once registered for the event, the classes above will be the appointed place of duty for active duty service members.
