Event description

Description

On Saturday, May 5 from 11AM to 1PM, the Good Old Lower East Side will lead a two hour resiliency walking tour of the Lower East Side as part of the 5th Annual LES History Month. Join us as we cover historic and current aspects of climate resilience, disaster preparedness and community-based energy solutions in the Lower East Side. Topics covered during the tours include the impact of SuperStorm Sandy, the history of the land, the power of community gardens from their inception till now, community victories against Con Edison that changed legislation, and more!

We will meet at 173 Avenue B, NY, NY (corner with 11th St) at 11AM and begin the walking tour from there.

Accessibility Note: The walking tour will last 2 hours, moving at the group's pace with frequent stops. We will cover a little under 2 miles. There are no steps involved in the route, although we will be going over a ramped bridge to cross into the East River park.

If you have any questions, please contact GOLES' Resiliency Training & Policy Coordinator Ceci Pineda at Ceci@goles.org.
