ABOUT THE SESSION
In OneNYC, the City committed to upgrade buildings to withstand the risks of climate change and extreme weather events including flooding, heat and wind. Building owners can protect their assets from extreme weather hazards by investing in cost-effective solutions for reducing risk. The Mayor’s Office of Recovery and Resiliency and Enterprise Community Partners, Inc. are offering a short (2 hour) training to help multifamily building owners better understand and prepare for climate risks.

This training will be facilitated by Tom Sahagian, who has more than 30 years of experience writing and providing trainings on multifamily building systems. Tom has designed or assisted in the design of numerous heating, cooling, electrical and plumbing systems. During his tenure at Enterprise Community Partners, Tom edited and helped write Strategies for Multifamily Building Resilience, published by Enterprise in 2015.

Join us at this session to learn about:

  • How to identify and assess disaster-related risks and vulnerabilities for your building(s);

  • Cost-effective strategies for protecting your building assets, maintaining business continuity, minimizing disruptions; and ensuring a quick return-to-service after disasters;

  • Lessons learned from building owners; and

  • How to develop an emergency plan

Training participants will receive credit through Enterprise Green Cummunities and continuing education credits through BOMA.

Enterprise Community Partners, Inc.

Enterprise Communities is the leading provider of financing, expertise and policy leadership for creating and preserving affordable housing in the nation. Over the past 30 years, Enterprise has raised and deployed over $28 billion to build and preserve 470,000 affordable homes nationwide. In New York, Enterprise has deployed over $270 million to create or preserve or 60,400 affordable homes

Enterprise’s New York City Office is hosting a series of panel presentations exploring the long-term recovery challenges and opportunities for the multifamily affordable housing infrastructure in New York City and the surrounding region in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.  Hurricane Sandy exposed the need to protect the multifamily affordable housing stock from the effects of climate change.  Over 62,000 public and affordable housing units were within the storm surge area across the tri-state region, representing about 13% of the total public and affordable units.   The series is part of Enterprise’s ongoing efforts to support Hurricane Sandy recovery and rebuilding and strengthening the resilience of affordable housing for the most vulnerable residents.
