Event description
Resilience is a piece celebrating the endeavor to survive and rebuild in the aftermath of destruction, whether caused by nature or humans.

About this Event

People of all cultures throughout history have had to rely on their resilience to overcome both natural disasters and political conquests that have jeopardized the identity and the very existence of their tribes/countries.

Resilience includes four main dance pieces in addition to smaller movement sections, dispersed with poetry and text, and performed in the style of contemporary Persian ballet, exploring the four elements: Earth, Air, Water, and Fire, their ability to create life and destroy it. It will also connect with modern-day disasters including the California wildfires, thus celebrating the significance of nature while alluding to the irony of the destruction caused by the very nature on which we rely upon for both biological and emotional survival. Using spoken socio-political text -including real words of survivors of modern-day natural disasters and how they found resiliency- to create a thread connecting the four dances into one cohesive piece, the destruction caused by humans will be juxtaposed against that of nature.
