Attend a free, interactive training workshop to help water sector utilities:

  • Share information about how flooding, drought and extreme heat events in the South Central U.S. could impact water utilities;
  • Explore adaptation and resilience building strategies that reduce long-term risk to water infrastructure and resources from extreme events and improve overall utility management;
  • Identify key questions about water infrastructure vulnerabilities to address within their respective utilities or communities;
  • Make the business case for investing in resilience; and
  • Gain exposure to EPA's Creating Resilient Water Utilities (CRWU) resources and tools.

The workshop will take place on June 6, 2017 from 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm and on June 7, 2017 from 8:30 am - 2:30 pm CDT.

The workshop is designed for participants who have the ability to make or influence planning and resource allocation decisions within water utilities and from governmental agencies who work with water utilities. CEUs may be available for eligible participants from the following states:

  • Arkansas (Drinking Water): Drinking water operators will be eligible for 7.5 direct training hours.
  • Arkansas (Waste Water): Waste water operators will be eligible for 3.5 direct waste water hours for the first day of the workshop and 5 direct waste water hours for the second day of the workshop.
  • New Mexico: Drinking water and waste water operators will be eligible for 6.5 training credits.
  • Oklahoma: Drinking water and waste water operators will be eligible for 5 continuing education credits.
  • Texas: Water and waste water operators will be eligible for up to 7.5 credit hours.

Examples of ideal participants include:

  • Water utility leadership, including general managers and executive-level staff;
  • Water utility planners, risk managers, and operators; and
  • Federal, State, local, and/or Tribal government staff and managers.

Workshop Agenda Topics (Day 1):

  • Potential Water Sector Impacts of Climate Conditions in the South Central U.S.
  • Adaptation and Resilience: Making the Business Case
  • CREAT: An informational tool to assist water utility owners and operators in understanding and assessing risk associated with extreme weather events

Workshop Agenda Topics (Day 2):

  • Utility Resilience Planning: Local Examples and Case Studies
  • Small Group Discussion: Advancing Resilience Planning at Your Utility
  • Funding Resources for Resilience Planning

A cash lunch will be provided at the workshop. All participants will be asked to submit their Lunch Box Order Form (see links at the bottom of this page) to Terry Branch (branch.terry@epa.ov) by June 2, 2017. Please bring $5 cash in exact change with you to pay for your lunch.
