Event description

Description

The recent months have been politically no less tumultuous than those preceding them. Our practices of self and collective care to build resilience in this ever-changing world are as important now as ever. If you are an activist, organizer, care giver, healer, teacher, organizer or leader involved in social change efforts at any level, you are especially in need of tools and community that affirm that your wellbeing and healing.

This is not a luxury – it is foundational to our strategies. To transform the systems of extraction, exploitation, and violence that are destroying our planet and further harming the most marginalized communities, we need all of us. Whether you’re new to social change work or have been at it for decades, we need you to be supported and in balance, so your nervous system can down-regulate from automatic stress response and create the space that is neurologically and biologically needed for creativity, stamina, resilience and healing.

The Possibility...

We can work for change in a way that doesn't turn the evils of extraction, exploitation, and dehumanization in upon ourselves and each other. We can find healing that offers us deeper restoration than the one-time self-care practices we are often given as the solution to deeper pain. It is possible to understand our pain, our oppression, our trauma and heal to support ourselves, so we can care for each other and the wider world.

You are invited to breathe, to inhabit your body, to imagine, and to be connected to a community of supportive peers who see and care about you beyond the roles you play and the work you do. The core of this work is understanding and working with our trauma and stress, knowledge of how oppression shows up in our individual and collective bodies, and cultivating resilience. Whether you attended the first Brooklyn workshop or not, this will be accessible and stimulating to your ongoing practice and growth. We will go deeper into collective practices that help to sustain energy rather than drain it, create more space to build relationships, and envision together how this community can be most supportive for us moving forward.

Join us for the workshop (1-3:30p) followed by an optional afternoon potluck (3:30-5p) in the backyard at the beautiful Hoop House in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn. We'd love to build with you!

As facilitators we have anti-oppression and trauma-informed wellness and organizing training, and the workshop space strives to be inclusive and supportive of all gender expressions, sexual orientations, dis/abilities, racial identities, class backgrounds, and learning styles. Absolutely no previous experience with yoga, meditation, somatics, or anything of the sort is needed. What we do together will be totally accessible for all bodies, and you do not need a yoga mat or any exercise clothes - come as you are. Please know that the Hoop House requires climbing about 5 stairs to enter the front door.
