Event description

Description

Advocates for Health in Action and Marbles Kids Museum invite you to a community screening of Resilience, a 60-minute film directed by James Redford on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and their impact on health, quality of life, economics and education.

Research shows ACEs are common, they affect all socioeconomic levels, and their lifelong impact on health and well-being is significant. “The child may not remember, but the body remembers.”

View this highly acclaimed film with us to learn what ACEs are, how they increase the likelihood of disease and illness, and how together we as a community can mitigate the impact of ACEs for Wake County residents.

DEC. 13: DISCUSSION FOLLOWING FILM
The Public School Forum of North Carolina staff and partners will host a guided discussion directly following the December 13 screening event in the Zanzibar B room at Marbles from 9:30-10:30am.

The Forum's new Resilience and Learning Project, working to create more trauma-sensitive schools, is currently underway in Edgecombe County Public Schools and Rowan-Salisbury Schools and is looking to expand to new counties in the coming year.

While the focus of this work is in schools, the Forum invites everyone viewing the film to this community conversation because in order for change to happen, it will take more than just schools being involved --- entire communities need to be involved in this work. That begins by bringing everyone around one table to have open dialogue.

No additional sign-up is needed to attend the discussion. Questions: contact Elizabeth DeKonty at the Public School Forum, 919-781-6833, x 133 or edekonty@ncforum.org.
