Event Details

Rescheduling due to illness: Nando has a fierce case of Strep Throat. We will probably set a new date for this in August 2012.

Nando Cabán-Méndez, the Creative Journeyman, will take you through simple, actionable ways you can build your online presence, draw traffic, and effectively engage your target audience online.

Nando knows that online marketing can be a bit overwhelming for many entrepreneurs, and so he breaks it all down to a set of action steps and an ongoing workflow plan that can streamline your online marketing efforts and increase your ROI.

Join Nando and our All Content Matters group on Friday, April 20th, 2012, at Cafe Express for your guided tour of the Small Business Online Marketing Universe. Nando will explain the steps to establishing and building your choices within online marketing approaches through a hands-on goals prioritization exercise. Within this process, you will have the opportunity to explore the role of online marketing to help:

  • Create brand awareness;
  • Shape brand perceptions;
  • Establish brand ubiquity;
  • Provide customer service;
  • Build community (support, fans, other);
  • Create a personal brand following;
  • Foster relationships;
  • Establish expertise (thought leadership);
  • Develop trust with your target audience;
  • Engage public relations;
  • Generate leads;
  • Build marketing campaign buzz;
  • Curate and spread useful information;
  • Increase search engine visibility (link bait);
  • Enhance local search visibility (foot traffic for brick and mortar).

Nando will then help you to bring it all together by guiding you through an exercise to identify your target persona, hone your message, and establish the tactics you can initiate immediately to get your online marketing plan underway.

After a brief Q&A session with Nando, please stay with us for a bit of social time at Café Express.

About Nando Cabán-Méndez:

Hi, I’m Nando Cabán-Méndez, designer by trade, Puerto Rican by birth, based in Austin, Texas.

I have freelanced, owned a sign company, lost it all, moved from my birthplace, started again, managed an art department, given it up to move halfway across the country, ended up working in the back shop, started again, tried harder, moved up the ladder, got the fancy job, survived three rounds of layoffs, worked harder, lost the fancy job, and had to start again.

I’ve learned a lot after more than fifteen years as a designer, and just about as long as an entrepreneur. It occurred to me that I can help others shorten their learning curve by merging both experiences into a comprehensive service. I’ve made the mistakes, done the research, discovered the fixes, and now I find myself in a place where I can share the lessons learned.

As a designer, I empathize with you because I’m one of you. I don’t design from an ivory tower. I understand your budget and your schedule, and that you need results. But I also empathize with your customers, so I concern myself with the practicalities of execution and usability. I’m a creative left-brainer, pragmatic right-brainer, and believe complex problems often benefit from simple solutions. I use my attention to detail, empathy, and skills to help you define your brand, strategize your marketing, and engage with your target audience.

As an entrepreneur, I know what it’s like to do what you do. I’ve dealt with perennial low budgets. As a result, I’ve become pretty resourceful at business development and marketing on a shoestring. I know your resources are limited, so I approach my work as a partner, sensitive to your budget constraints.

What’s with the name?

In the tradition of crafts and trades, there typically is a Master at the craft in a given community. A Master will typically have Apprentices. Somewhere in the middle is the Journeyman.

The Journeyman comes and goes, contributes as needed, and continuously both learns and shares the knowledge picked up elsewhere.

Just like my work is not just graphic design, or web development, or marketing, I offer comprehensive solutions with a lot more experience than an Apprentice. But I don’t like to think of myself as a Master, either. Instead, I think constant learning is the path to success, and what I learn, I share with you.

My work is to be creative, my style is that of the journeyman. Hence, I am the Creative Journeyman.
