Description

Reshaping Poland's Community after Communism: a conversation with Anne Applebaum, Jan Zielonka, and Helena Chmielewska-Szlajfer (author)

LSE European Institute and LSE SU Polish Business Society would like to invite you for a panel that will discuss Poland’s current political landscape and the growth of right-wing nationalism, in the context of the upcoming local elections (21 October), and similar trends throughout Europe.

The point of departure for the debate will be Dr Helena Chmielewska-Szlajfer’s recently published book, Reshaping Poland’s Community after Communism: Ordinary Celebrations. This monograph analyses everyday civic activity in Poland after 1989, and its implications for democracy.

The panellists are Prof. Anne Applebaum (LSE) and Prof. Jan Zielonka (Oxford). The panel will be chaired by Dr Roch Dunin-Wąsowicz (LSE).

Dr Helena Chmielewska-Szlajfer is a Visiting Fellow at LSE Department of Media & Communications and an Assistant Professor at Kozminski University in Warsaw.
