Come make a splash on the beautiful Oradell Reservoir!
Reservoir Challenge is a day of races and open paddling on the Oradell Reservoir in Haworth, New Jersey. The event is a fundraiser for Hackensack Riverkeeper, a clean-water advocacy organization. All proceeds help support our mission to protect, preserve and restore the Hackensack River Watershed. Whether you’re bringing your own boat or borrowing one of ours, entering a race or registering for the open paddle, we look forward to seeing you at the Reservoir on June 2nd! Rain or shine!

A Day at the Races!
The day begins with 5 & 10K races. Awards will be given based on vessel type, with separate classes for men and women for single kayaks!

Corporate Cup Challenge
Is your company looking for a fun and unique team-building activity? Register your four-person team in this exciting kayak relay race today!

Mayors Cup Challenge
After the Corporate Cup, you won’t want to miss the always-entertaining Mayors Cup Challenge. Watch as local elected officials go paddle-to-paddle for the coveted Mayor’s Cup. Will your mayor win? Come cheer (or jeer – we won’t tell)! Spectators are FREE!

Open Paddle Session
Join us in the afternoon for an open paddle on the reservoir. In our boat or yours, come and enjoy the beauty of the Oradell Reservoir. Be sure to register early, as rentals are limited!

Landlubbers Unite!
All this fun PLUS live music, food, and children’s activities are “on tap” at Reservoir Challenge. All shoreline activities are FREE. Friends and spectators are welcome.

7:45am- Check-in begins
8:45am- All racers must be on the water. 5K and 10K separate lineup areas.
8:55am- 5 minute warning for 10K Race
9:00am- 10K Race begins, 5 minute warning for 5K Race
9:05am- 5K Race begins
10:00am- Check-in for Corporate Cup Teams
Children's Activities with SUEZ, live music, and food.
11:00am- Live Music by the Haggard Kings
11:00am- Corporate Cup Challenge begins
12:00pm- Mayor's Cup Challenge begins
12:15pm- Lunch
12:30pm- Check-in for Open Paddle begins (RENTALS)
1:00pm- Awards Presentations
1:30pm- Check-in for Open Paddle begins (OWN BOATS)
1:30pm- Open Paddle begins (RENTALS)
2:00pm- Open Paddle begins (OWN BOATS)
4:00pm- All rented boats off reservoir
4:30pm- All own boats off reservoir

GUIDELINES
For security reasons, no cameras will be allowed beyond the gates into the reservoir area.

All boats must be washed before entering the reservoir (we will have a wash station set-up for participants bringing their own boats).

Reservoir Challenge: 5K and 10K races will follow the same course (1 lap = 5K, 2 laps = 10K). Races will have a running start. Signals at five, three and one minute warnings. 10K will start at 9:00 am SHARP and 5K at 9:05am.

The first boat across the finish line in each race in each of the following categories will win a prize:
· SK1: Single Recreational Kayak (14’ and under) separate Men's and Women's classes
· SK2: Single Racing Kayak (over 14’) separate Men's and Women's classes
· TK: Tandem Kayak
· C: Canoe
· S: Specialty Outrigger Boat

All paddlers must wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD), in good and serviceable condition and of appropriate size for the intended user for the duration of the Races or Open Paddles.
Paddles, PFD’s and whistles will be provided to those who rent a boat. Anyone bringing their own boat must provide their own paddle, PFD and whistle.

Safety boats will be on the water to provide assistance, however paddlers must stop to provide assistance to any other paddler who appears to be in distress.

AGE RESTRICTIONS
Children 5 and up may ride as a passenger in a canoe with two adult paddlers (two children passengers max). Children 8 and older can paddle in the front of a tandem kayak. Children 12 and older may paddle a single kayak, if they are accompanied and supervised by an adult while on the water.


REFUNDS
This event is a fundraiser, with all proceeds going directly to Hackensack Riverkeeper, a clean water advocacy organization, to help continue our mission to protect, preserve, and restore the Hackensack River Watershed. Your registration is a donation to the organization and is non-refundable. In the event you are unable to attend, we will issue a voucher that you may use at either of our paddling centers or at a future 2018 or 2019 special event. This event is rain or shine and will only be cancelled due to lightning. Call 201-968-0808 within 48 hours of the event to release your rental and arrange for your voucher.


Reservoir Challenge is one of the few opportunities the public has to paddle the Oradell Reservoir, one of its most important and picturesque natural resources. Thank you to SUEZ and the Borough of Haworth for giving us the opportunity to enjoy this jewel of the Hackensack River Watershed.
