P.D. Newman presents: Presocratic Philosophy and Gérard de Nerval's Hiramic Legend.

An alternative version of Freemasonry’s Hiramic legend, first recorded in Gérard de Nerval’s book,Voyage en Orient (1851), is shown to possess a number of structural and symbolic similarities to a)legends surrounding certain of the Presocratics (most notably, the death of Presocratic philosopher andpoet, Empedokles)and b) De Nerval’s own decline.
