AVOW stands for Advancing Voices of Women. AVOW is committed to moving the voices of women forward in Northeast Indiana through three pillars.

Pillar I The Paul Helmke School for Women in Public Life - This pillar will offer classes and seminars to prepare women to become involved in all aspects of public life. This includes being on boards, serving on commissions, running for office or helping others run for office.

Pillar II Civil Conversations - Research shows we isolate ourselves into homogeneous groups. We live in neighborhoods, attend places of worship, join organizations and become friends with people just like us. This adds to polarization in our society, in our culture, and in our politics. Civil Conversations will be guided discussions with other women about issues facing women, our community, and our country. Watch for dates.

Pillar III Women's Opinion Columns in the Journal Gazette on crucial issues. - This our original pillar. It is a joint project with the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette to author and publish thoughtful, well researched civil opinions of women from our community. Columns appear in the Perspective Section of the Sunday Journal Gazette.

Pillar IV Campaign for Civility  - In the fall of 2018, AVOW initiated its Campaign for Civility. The purpose of the campaign is to improve the dialogue in the public square to be civil.

AVOW is a nonpartisan organization dedicated to advancing the voices of ALL women through education, training and promoting women in the public square. AVOW does not endorse any candidate or engage in any candidate’s campaign.
