ABOUT THIS CLASS

REPURPOSE: Hardware Hacking explores the practice of recycling and repurposing consumer products for multimedia and sound performances. Through bold experiments, dismantling and reconfiguring appliances, tools, toys, musical instruments, and electronics, participants develop the skills and experience to make expressive devices out of everyday objects. Class projects include circuit bending, hacking controllers, constructing kinetic art with found mechanisms, and designing contact-mic-based musical instruments. Through hands-on experiments, students learn reverse engineering, basic electronics, basic construction, mechanical engineering, how to integrate found devices with controllers (Arduino/Teensy), and how to source materials.
