WHAT: RePublic High School announces a school contest for Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest.
The competition, presented in partnership with the Tennessee Arts Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Poetry Foundation, is part of a national program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization, performance, and competition. Over the past 11 years, Poetry Out Loud has reached more than 3 million students and 45,000 teachers from 10,000 schools nationwide. On February 24, 2017, more than 25 students from RePublic High School will participate in the Poetry Out Loud school contest at 3307 Brick Church Pike, Nashville, Tennessee, 37207. The winner of this competition will advance to the Country Music Hall of Fame Poetry Out Loud contest. The Tennessee champion will advance to the Poetry Out Loud National Finals on April 25–26, 2017 in Washington, DC, where $50,000 in awards and school stipends will be distributed. This event will be in conjunction with our first annual, RHS Cultural Bazaar, which will highlight the achievements of the diaspora. On this night, we will indulge in music, art, poetry, and culture together as one family.
