In recent years there have been multiple attempts by the legislature and courts to increase both the rate and length of prison sentences for sex offences in Victoria, especially offences against children. In its latest report, the Sentencing Advisory Council analyses police and court data to investigate the prevalence of sex offences in Victoria in the 10 years to 2019, and whether any of the various reforms have achieved their desired effect.
