Event description

Description

We invite you to join us for a discussion about how and why school communities are replacing grading practices with feedback that leads to a focus on learning and higher achievement. This session will engage teachers, administrators and instructional support staff in a conversation that will:

tie the research on learning and intrinsic motivation to the reason “why” learning communities are changing traditional grading practices,
identify methods we can use to recognize high achievement, and
explore ways teachers are providing 4 level learning, the above and beyond tasks.

School teams will review and/or create action plans for their work back home and meet and discuss with other districts to help problem solve their biggest challenges. Come with a team from your district/school and help us problem solve and identify strategies and methods that help support teachers as they continue to design the Ideal Learning Experience for each and every one of their learners.

Participants will share learnings, gain insights, network with others, and create action steps that will support efforts to transform their systems.

Outcomes for our Summit: Summit participants will:

explore research on learning and intrinsic motivation and how that research ties to the reasons “why” learning communities across the country are changing traditional grading practices.
identify traditional grading practices that when changed, help to build a culture that supports a focus on learning rather than grades, points, etc.
understand how to design learning experiences that reach high levels of rigor and accommodate our definition of “4 Level Learning” on our 4 Pt. scale.
discuss methods and strategies for recognizing high achievement within a proficiency-based, customized learning community.
leverage the collective expertise of their colleagues to identify important messages and communication strategies when working with all stakeholders.
leave with an action plan they can use in their classrooms, and at the building/district level.
share learnings, gain insights, network with others, and create action steps that will support efforts to transform their systems.

Daily Schedule: 8:30 - 3:00 with lunch provided at 11:30
