Event Details

This annual event brings together community experts with folks seeking to learn how to repair common household items. Saving used items from landfills is key to reducing our waste. Volunteers will be on hand to help and offer advice on the best way to reuse and repair your possessions.

Repair Café is presented in conjunction with Repair Cafe International (, Our Time Bank (, Transition Culver City (, and the City of Santa Monica's Resource Recovery Program. (

Repair stations include (look for updates): Bikes, Electronics, Furniture, Glue Station, Hair Trimming, Jewelry, Knife Sharpening, Sewing, and Small Appliances. Donations accepted for consumable materials used in repairs. Santa Monica Bike Center is providing a mechanic to make repairs and dispense advice. Staff from the Santa Monica Public Library will be on hand to help you troubleshoot and learn to use your electronic devices.

Drop off larger items curbside right out front before parking. No gas powered appliances allowed onsite. If you know how to fix something please send email to; we welcome volunteers!

In addition, Echo Park Film Center is onsite creating a documentary about the Camera Obscura device, and will be leading a free Cinematic Stocking Stuffers workshop making kaleidoscopes, thaumatropes, flipbooks and more.

Directions: The Camera Obscura Art Lab is at 1450 Ocean Ave on the west side of Ocean just north of Broadway.
By Metro - 4th St. Santa Monica Downtown stop, walk two blocks west to Ocean and 1.5 blocks north from the Pier entrance.
Parking is $6 or less for 3 hours in Parking Structure 6 (2nd between Broadway and Santa Monica), and $5 on weekends at the Civic Auditorium lot just down Main Street at 333 Civic Center Dr. Meters on Ocean Avenue; $2/hr maximum 3 hours. More info:

Bike share lockup just south of us in the park; for personal bikes remember to bring a strong lock.

It's a place to learn salsa moves, enhance your blogging skills, design a font, mix a perfume, tile a mosaic and much more! It all happens at 1450 Ocean Avenue in Palisades Park, steps from the entrance to the Santa Monica Pier. This midcentury building houses the iconic Camera Obscura mechanism and offers lovely views of the ocean as well classes, cultural events, and Artist Residencies. Santa Monica Cultural Affairs
