The facts speak for themselves:
- Los Angeles is the deadliest major U.S. city for traffic collisions. (LA DOT)
- In 2020, Los Angeles City saw a 26% decrease in traffic collisions, but South Los Angeles saw a 23% increase in serious injuries and fatalities. (LAPD)
- Traffic collisions are the #1 killer of children ages 4-14 in L.A. (LA DOT)
- In L.A., traffic collisions cause more deaths than gang violence. (LA DOT)
- L.A. has the highest percentage of hit-and-run crimes of any U.S. city. 48% of all collisions in Los Angeles are hit-and-runs. (LAPD)
- In the last 12 months, nearly 500 people have lost their lives or were seriously injured due to traffic violence in South Los Angeles. (LAPD)
Join South L.A. religious and civic leaders, community members, Faith for Safer Streets, and Streets Are For Everyone in remembering all whose lives were impacted by traffic violence in the last year.
Join faith-based leaders from across South Los Angeles in prayer for those whose lives have been lost due to traffic violence.
Who is Hosting this Event?
This event is created by Faith for Safer Streets, a coalition of South L.A. Faith-Based and community leaders who want to see the streets of South L.A. safe for the community and are taking action to do something about it.
Faith for Safer Streets has been created by Pastor Patricia Strong-Fargas of Mt. Salem New-Wave Christian Fellowship Church, and Damian Kevitt of Streets Are For Everyone.
Event Agenda
The event will take place outside on the lawn at Figueroa St. Elementry School along one of the most dangerous roads in all of Los Angeles.
It will open with stats and facts about traffic violence in South Los Angeles and the need for safer streets. Local civic leaders will speak, pledging their support of safer streets in South L.A.
Victims of South L.A. traffic violence will lead a walk down to a pop-up memorial with nearly 500 flags, one for each person seriously injured or killed in South L.A. in the last year.
Then South L.A. religious leaders of various faiths will lead the group with messages and prayer. Those present will be invited to be blessed for safe passage by the ministers present.
Water and light refreshments will be provided to participants.
