Description

Remembering the Dead: Archaeology & Creative Writing

A creative writing workshop with a difference.

Memorial objects and grave goods recovered by archaeologists will be used to explore concepts of memorialisation, and the relationship between objects and memories of the deceased, as a springboard to writing. Participants will handle archaeological objects and replicas. Poems inspired by Iron Age grave goods will be showcased, demonstrating how the past can inform and aid creative writing.

Please note that the workshops are not intended as therapy or counselling.

No former experience is required - just bring your open mind.

The workshops will be delivered by Dr Karina Croucher, University of Bradford, and Dr Melanie Giles, University of Manchester. They will follow on from a previous AHRC Crossing Over Network project, led by David Kennedy, University of Hull.

The workshop will run twice on Tuesday 9th May. 11-1, and 2-4 , The Space, Hebden Bridge Town Hall
