As I run the New York City Marathon this fall, I’ll be remembering a very special friend, Cooper Stock. I’m hoping for your help in dedicating my run to him and raising funds for Coop’s Hoops, an organization that has been established in his memory.
Cooper was a beautiful, bright, and fun-loving nine-year-old boy who had a passion for basketball. His life was tragically cut short in January when he was struck and killed by a taxicab in January on the Upper West Side, while crossing the street holding his father's hand.
It has been heart-breaking to see his family mourn this loss and absolutely inspiring to witness their determination in helping to improve the lives of other children.
By supporting Coop's Hoops, you can help Cooper's love for basketball live on in other children. The mission of Coop’s Hoops is to help children in need realize their dream of attending basketball camp. For every $475 we raise, we can send a child to Walt Frazier Basketball Camp next summer.
So please take a moment to appreciate what it would feel like to help give a child the experience of basketball camp and make a contribution. No amount is too small to join in honoring Cooper's life and to show your support for his legacy. My goal is to encourage as many of you as possible to participate – I'm hoping for a big, strong team!
And spread the word so that others can help too! To learn more about Cooper and current efforts to make city streets safer for pedestrians, please visit CooperStocksWay.org.
Thank you so much for joining me in this effort. It will be such a privilege to represent all of you in our support of Coop’s Hoops on November 2!
