Event description

Description

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo early with a private guided tasting of rare Mezcales, followed by a concert of contemporary classical music from some of Mexico's most exciting modern composers.

We’ll start with the tasting, 5:30-7:00PM at The Bowery Electric, guided by renowned expert and master distiller Alejandro Aispuro (read about him here) offering samples from his private collection. The tasting is now sold out! There are still tickets available for the concert only though.

Then we’ll stroll down the street to nearby (le) poisson rouge, for a 7:30-9:00PM concert of contemporary classical music, including New York City premieres of works by Gabriela Ortiz, Felipe Peréz Santiago, Ana Lara and Mexico's most celebrated living composer, Mario Lavista.

The performance, hosted by Seth Boustead, will be broadcast live on the nationally syndicated radio program Relevant Tonesthrough the WFMT network as well as in New York on WKCR. The broadcast will be preceded by the Discovery Series, a Song Exploder-style, process-oriented exploration of musical creativity moderated by Conrad Cummings and featuring Dialogues by emerging young composer Juan Pablo Contreras.

‘Modern Mexico’ is co-produced by Unison Media, the WFMT Radio Network, and Access Contemporary Music.
