Event description

Description

Communication is the key to exceptional patient care.

This course, facilitated by peer ZSFG and DPH physicians, midwives, and nurses, will help enhance your fundamental communication skills, including the ability to:

  • Establish rapport and build trust quickly

  • Communicate in time pressured settings

  • Negotiate a shared agenda between patient and provider

  • Explicitly give patients and families a sense of being heard, validated and cared about In healthcare settings

This type of skill development has been shown to:

  • Improve provider experience with clinical work

  • Improve patient experience of care

  • Shorten the duration of clinical encounters

  • Decrease patient complaints, grievances and malpractice actions

  • Improve patient ability to follow through on the care plan

Here’s what colleagues are saying about the course:

“We see thoughtful and effective communication as a way to better patient care, patient understanding and compliance. Our SFGH residents and faculty took the RCC workshop and found it immensely useful, especially when we examined some highly charged patient-provider encounters and learned ways to communicate differently to reach our patients. The day was a great success. We plan to have all of our residents undergo the workshop.” Benjamin B. MD, MAS, FACS--- Zuckerberg SF General
