Event description

Description

South Union Shaker Village will host a workshop, Rejoice! Roots of Shaker Musical Expression, Thursday, March 28th from 2pm to 3pm. Participants will explore the Shakers' unique musical heritage and learn how the Society's culture and theology influenced their musical expression. Rejoice! will also feature live performances of nineteenth century Shaker hymns by Nick Rich and the Winterbirds, including original compositions by African American Shaker, Sister Eunice Freehart, a formerly enslaved woman living at South Union prior to the Civil War.

Participants may also join us from 6pm to 7:30pm at the South Union Hotel, 396 South Union Road, for an evening performance by the Winterbirds, a progressive folk band combining traditional Appalachian sounds with Bluegrass, Newgrass, and contemporary influences. Citizens from the Commonwealth and beyond are invited to enjoy the workshop, live performance, or both!

Those interested are encouraged to register for each component they wish like to attend. Seating is limited.
