Join us as we livestream a candid conversation with Mayor Rory Hoskins, Senator Kimberly A. Lightford, and others on the historical significance of Juneteenth for all Americans. Juneteenth, or June 19, is the annual observance to celebrate the date Union soldiers enforced the Emancipation Proclamation freeing all remaining slaves in Galveston, Texas. Forest Park held its inaugural Juneteenth celebration, a family pool party, in 2009. Reimaging Freedom in America: A Candid Conversation about Juneteenth will highlight the role Forest Park residents and other Illinoisans have played in Juneteenth initiatives as well as ongoing efforts to make Juneteenth a state and national holiday.
