Event description

Description

Join REI and the Mid-Iowa Boy Scout Council at the Fred Maytag II Scout Center for a screening of Expedition Alaska, a documentary film that follows adventure racing teams on one of the toughest courses in the world.

The 74-minute film tells the story of a 7-day, non-stop endurance race that took place through the Alaskan wilderness. The documentary follows 20 teams of four in a 350-mile competition as they mountain bike through the sharp peaks of the Kenai Peninsula, traverse mountain ranges & crevasse filled glaciers, & paddle countless life-threatening rivers & rapids.

The documentary is produced by the Production Master Class at the University of Cincinnati. The class focuses on experiential learning in documentary film production. Students travelled to Alaska to work with alumni, teachers & professionals while braving the Alaskan wilderness alongside the racers. They faced many of the same challenges as the racers & still managed to capture some of the most compelling footage of adventure racing ever seen.

Boy Scout popcorn and drinks will be available for purchase.

After the screening, join our MC Dr. Deming for a live Q&A with racers & crew presented by Above + Beyond Cancer, featuring the director Brian J. Leitten & racer Jeri Lewis.

Tickets: $10/Adult & $5/Student & Scouts.
