Identified Practice Gaps

Rehabilitation Robotics is increasingly being recognized as a treatment option to augment and optimize outcomes for patients with neurological impairments. Despite recent advances in robotic technology and the evidence supporting rehabilitation robotics, many clinicians have limited understanding and access to these technologies. Neuro-rehabilitation specialists, therapists, and the patients they care for may benefit from a better understanding of the applications, integration and adoption of rehabilitation robotics in the clinical environment.

CME Credits

This activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)

Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Better identify the motor learning principles and neurophysiology underlying rehabilitation robotic therapy.
  2. Identify existing neurorehabilitation therapies that may be augmented or complemented by rehabilitation robotics.
  3. Recognize barriers to the adoption and integration of robotic technology.
  4. Discuss potential strategies to overcome barriers to the adoption of rehabilitation robotics.
  5. Identify the clinical applications of robotic therapy.
  6. Incorporate new research findings and develop new strategies for the use of robotics in treating patients with neurological impairments.
