Event description

Description

In the 1760s, farmers in backcountry North Carolina started an uprising against colonial officials. After several failed attempts to resolve their issues peacefully, the farmers - known as Regulators - proceeded to extralegal and violent forms of dissent.

Hillsborough played a critical role in the Regulator crisis of 1770-71, as the setting for both the movement's escalation and its final demise. Join Alamance Battleground Site Manager Jeremiah DeGennaro for a walking tour through Historic Hillsborough, to various sites related to the Hillsborough Riot of 1770 and the Regulator Hangings of 1771.
