Event description

Description

On-site registration begins at 8am, with canoe and kayakers leaving for the western portion of River at 8:30a. All other volunteers will be transported to their locations by 9a. Headquarters for the cleanup will be at Westside Park in Muncie, off of White River Boulevard between Tillotson St bridge and Nichols St bridge. We will be meeting the shelters furthest to the west.

Lunch will be provided to all volunteers who attend the event and stay to 11am. Attendees are encouraged to dress to get wet and dirty! Please bring gloves if you have them.

We request that volunteers pre-register so we have a headcount for lunch and proper volunteer coverage for each site. Once you have registered online and recieve the confirmation email, you should report to the Fast-Track Registration line the day of the cleanup. There you will simply verify your information for attendance.

About this event:

The White River Cleanup has been responsible for removing over 98,000 pounds of trash and 650+ tires from our beautiful river. It has drawn well over 2,700 volunteers over the years, making it the largest single-day volunteer event in Delaware County. Last year alone brought around 230 volunteers to Westside Park. The White River Clean-Up covers close to 12 miles of river from the Old Indiana Steel and Wire Plant all the way to Canoe Country in Daleville.

Volunteers walk the bank, river and land where possible removing debris from and around the river. When that is not possible, volunteers use canoes to navigate through the water, filling them up along the way with the debris they find.

The White River Cleanup is sponsored by the Stormwater Management Department and organized by Muncie-Delaware Clean & Beautiful.
