Regional Training Institute: Elements of Effective Practice Part I & II
Are you implementing a new mentoring program or expanding an existing one? The two-day RTI will provide program providers and community leaders the opportunity to learn about the ten basic elements that are important when creating and operating a high-quality mentoring program.
In day one, program providers and staff learn how to write a strong mission and vision statement and explore the differences between goals, objectives and activities so they can create their own program plan. Participants discuss different types of mentoring relationships, program types and settings. Professional facilitators and mentoring partnership staff lead program providers through discussion and activities to generate ideas for recruiting and retaining volunteers. Participants learn about the importance of mentor screening, background checks, pre-match and ongoing training.
In day two, volunteers analyze the matching process and discuss how to provide consistent match support throughout the stages of the mentoring relationship from maturation to closure. Participants will learn strategies for recognizing and retaining mentors. Program providers will be introduced to logic models and the development of program evaluations. Participants should gain a deeper understanding of their role as program managers and the practices to follow to make their programs and matches stronger. Appropriate for new program managers or experienced managers with less than 3 years’ experience.
Cost: $50 for both days; includes 14 hours of training, a certificate of completion, lunch, snacks & beverages, free parking, and a workbook. 9am-4pm at the Science Musuem of Virginia, 2500 W. Broad St. Richmond VA 23220.
