RPP Cultural Competency Series:

Exploring Cultural Competency for Engaging

Military Families
and
Low Socioeconomic Status Vermonters

This training will be a continuation of the cultural competency training series with a focus on two of the RPP target populations:  military families and low socioeconomic status Vermonters.  Goal for the day:  To promote effective cultural competency skills and strategies for engaging military families and low socio-economic families of youth and young adults in prevention efforts.

 

Morning Session:  9:00 am to 12:00 noon

Cultural Competency in Engaging Vermont Military Families

Training Objectives:

  • Describe the conditions/;'circumstances and unique cultural aspects of military familie in Vermont;
  • Share strategies to engage military families in prevention;
  • Utilize regional resources that support military families.

Facilitator:  Brian Stoudnour is a contractor with the Vermont National Guard who specializes in working with youth in military families.

 

Afternoon Session:  1:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Cultural Competency in Engaging Vermont Families of Low SE Status

Training Objectives:

  • Provide an overview of helath equity issues of Vermonters with low socio-economic status that impact access to prevention strategies;
  • Examine barriers for families with low socio-economic status to access prevention strategies and resources;
  • Consider opportunities to support and encourage families to participate in prevention activities;
  • Share strategies to engage low SES families in prevention.

Facilitators:  Three facilitators from Equity Solutions will present under the guidnace of Angela Berkfield, Founder.  Facilitators are Endra Colburn, SHela ALInton, and Chad Simons.  Information on each facilitator can be found on their website:  www.equitysolutionsvt.com

 

Who should attend?

These trainings are designed for the Vermont Department of Health Regional Prevention Partnerships (RPP) Grantees, RPP sub-recipients, VDH staff and interested community stakeholders. 


This training is offered at no charge and is paid for through a grant from the Vermont Department of Health, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Programs (ADAP).
