December 9, 2016, COSEBOC and CPLAN will host a Regional Gathering in Boston, MA to focus on "Trauma in the Village." This special workshop - for service providers, caregivers, educators, professionals, and policymakers - was first featured at COSEBOC's 10th Annual Gathering in NYC in May, 2016. This workshop will provide participants with a powerful framework for re-shaping the culture, practices, and policies of their organization to ensure that it is sensitive to the experiences and needs of the traumatized individuals, families, and communities that they serve.
The conversation will be expertly facilitated and highly interactive, ultimately seeking resolutions to trauma and mental well-being via clinical research, school and community based expertise, and the insights of the Village.
Session will offer best practices for addressing trauma in communities of color, including: defining trauma, compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma and suggested staff development for colleagues.
Our special guest presenters will be Professor Charles Ogletree, Harvard Law School and Founder of the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Law and Social Justice and Dr. Lonise Bias, mother of slain Boston Celtics player and national advocate on healing for families who experience trauma.
