  • Classroom visits

  • In-depth conversations around the principles of the educational project of Reggio Emilia and the PYP framework facilitated by the educators from La Scuola and Anne van Dam (IB workshop leader and educational consultant)

About the presenter: Anne van Dam, Educational Consultant ‘The Learning Square’

Biography: Early childhood education has been my passion for more than 25 years. I have worked as a teacher, PYP coordinator and school leader alongside children and educators in schools in the Netherlands, China, Singapore and Switzerland. I have been an IB trainer since 2005, sharing my passion for young children with educators in IB schools in South East Asia, Europe, Middle East and Africa. I joined EtonHouse International Pre-School in 2007, drawn to the school for its vision to establish early childhood education centred on young children’s competencies in making meaning and building relationships. In 2008, I became the Principal of this school. In 2011, I moved back to Europe and took on the responsibility of Assistant Principal at the International School of Zug and Luzern (ISZL). At ISZL, I developed, in partnership with teachers and other school leaders, a vision for the early years at the school. This direction places a strong emphasis on relationships, play, learning spaces (both inside and outside) and on making teaching and learning visible to others. A move back to the Netherlands in 2015 has given me the opportunity to work as a consultant with the PYP development team at the IB regional office in The Hague. I have worked on the PYP review, focusing on learner agency, early years, inquiry and elements of the ‘learning community’. I also established long-term relationships with schools, supporting professional learning around ‘developing a shared pedagogy’, learner agency and play. Since August 2017, I work for the IB as a workshop leader and workshop developer and collaborate with schools as an independent educational consultant.
