Event description

Description

Join Elmwood Stock Farm's Mac Stone for a walk around this sixth-generation, organic, family farm in Georgetown, Ky., to discuss how food gets from the farm to your plate without the use of chemical pesticides or fertilizers and why the farmers have chosen to farm this way. Meet some of the chickens, turkeys, and other livestock on the two-hour tour that will touch on many topics. Learn about greenhouse and high tunnel production systems, pastured poultry, grass-fed rotational grazing, vegetable-growing, soil-building, ecologically sustainable agriculture, and even identify beneficial insects. Come ready for an outdoor adventure.

“We want to do these Regenerative Farming Tours because we really want people to learn about what they’re eating, how that food is grown, who grows it, and how their food choices affect their own health and the health of their communities,” says Mac. This year, tours are specifically centered around the biological principles behind organic farming.

About This Farm Tour

Elmwood Stock Farm tours are designed to educate adults and children alike about how food gets from the farm to your plate - if you are an eater, this tour is for you! This tour will be held rain or shine, except in the event of severe weather.

Please plan to arrive 10 minutes before the event start time so that the tour may begin on time.

To gain the full experience, wear comfortable shoes that you don't mind getting dirty, pants that allow you to kneel to examine the soil, and protection from the sun (or rain). Please note that this is a working farm, so electric fences are on, children need to be supervised by the adults who brought them, and pets are not allowed.

Directions will be emailed to everyone who registers so that you can find the correct farm entrance and the starting point for this event.

Elmwood Stock Farm CSA members and children under the age of 12 may receive discounted tour tickets by contacting the farm directly.

About Elmwood Stock Farm

Elmwood Stock Farm, in Georgetown, Ky., is a sixth-generation, USDA Certified organic family farm that began as a producer of Black Angus breeding-stock cattle. The cattle are still an important part of the farm ecosystem and farm business, though over the past decade, the farm has branched out to produce a variety of organic vegetables, fruits, meats and eggs. Elmwood is committed to healthy and wholesome production of superior, high-quality, fresh farm products. Organic certification and close family involvement ensure that safe and sustainable farming practices are followed, livestock are well cared for, and land and water conservation remain a priority. Elmwood's produce, eggs and meats can be found at farmers markets, local restaurants and grocery stores, and through its CSA farm-share in Central Kentucky and Cincinnati.

Book Your Own Tour
