The Refugee Sponsorship Training Program (RSTP) invites the private sponsors of refugees to attend a training workshop in Edmonton, Alberta on managing expectations and ethical practices in refugee sponsorship.

It is a workshop for sponsoring groups in the pre-arrival and post-arrival stages of sponsorship. Through participation, refugee sponsors will consider and be equipped with strategies and tools to support successful sponsorship dynamics. The workshop will explore various themes including:

• Managing expectations: What are sponsors’ and refugees’ expectations of each other and how can expectations be managed to avoid potential conflict?
  
• Code of ethics for privately sponsoring groups: What are some ethical practices that private sponsors may wish to consider?
  
• Power imbalance: How do power imbalances affect the relationship between sponsors and refugees and how can this be minimized?

Please register in advance on Eventbrite by Monday, September 26th, 2016, as space is limited. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.

On the day of the event, sign-in for registered attendees will take place from 5:15 - 5:45 PM.

FAQs

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

To access the Stanley A. Milner Library, there are a number of parking options, including parking in the South parkcade. Street level parking is also available nearby.

Where is the Edmonton Room located in the Stanley A. Milner Library?

The Edmonton Room is located on the basement level. It is accessible through level P2 South of the parkade and the staircase from the street level library lobby. Payment for parking is cash only upon leaving the parkade.

If you require an elevator to access the basement level, please let Security Staff know and they will escort you and your guests to the basement level.
