Description

Register for tickets here on Eventbrite OR call 316-992-4464 to register and pay in cash at the event to avoid ticketing fees!

For this month of April, join the IRC Wichita and Dorcas Nsimire for a cooking demonstration benefitting the IRC!

Learn how to make Congolese-style Ugali, Chicken, and Fried Plantains!

Dorcas will walk participants through the steps to share a traditional and delicious dish with you from her home country of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. One that she says, "Once you try this, you'll want to learn how to make it!"

All ingredients will be prepped beforehand, and all kitchen materials will be provided. Ticket purchase covers one meal cost. Event guests are invited to cook and/or converse in a casual and warm setting and enjoy a nice dinner together afterward! Come to watch and learn, cook and eat with us!

Thank you to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Derby for donating their kitchen facility and our event sponsor Dillons Community Donations!

Proceeds raised from this event will go towards resettlement funds for refugee families. These funds help cover basic needs including groceries, household items, bus passes, rent and utility payments, and more. As our refugee families work toward self-sufficiency through gaining employment and financial stability, these funds cover the associated costs of rebuilding a new life here in America, creating a strong safety net for a successful start.

About our chef: Dorcas arrived in Wichita, KS in 2016 when she was 18 years old. She entered junior year at North High School with only two years to finish high school. Despite this, Dorcas took summer classes throughout those two years and successfully graduated from High School. She is among the first in her community to do so. Currently, she is earning her Associates through a WSU Tech and WSU partnership. Long term, Dorcas plans to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. She is personally motivated by the challenge to represent minorities and women in the industry.
