Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

Now, more than ever, we hear the call to cultivate what we most wish to bring to life in the world. With the challenges arising in our rapidly changing world, many people are pledging anew to find a way to bring their values into life in a more tangible and direct way.

The idea of taking refuge might bring to mind escape or withdrawal from what is difficult. But rather than escaping, what if there were a way to take refuge in this very moment? Further, what if taking refuge in this way would transform the very world we so wish to serve?

In our third annual Weekend Stay@Home retreat, you are invited to join with all those who see contemplative practice as part and parcel of who they are and how they engage in the world. On this weekend, participants will receive guidance within a carefully structured environment, allowing each of us to develop in awareness, sensitivity and to cultivate greater access to wisdom in action. The retreat will be held primarily in silence, with opportunities for questions and times of heartfelt movement and heartful interaction. This retreat is offered for beginners and experienced meditators alike. Everyone is invited to attend, both church members and those in the wider community. All are welcome.
Participants will eat, meditate, walk, join in gentle movement, work, and speak, together, practicing wakeful presence throughout. We will experience the power of awakening in everyday life, both at home and in our weekend practice community. We will begin Friday evening with a light dinner followed by opening instruction and meditation practice. Sleep and breakfast will happen at home, with guidance for how to maintain mindful awareness during at-home time. For Saturday, participants are asked to bring a bag lunch; vegetarian/vegan dinner will be provided. The weekend will end with Sunday morning practice, worship service and celebratory coffee hour together.
A $40 registration fee is requested to help with event expenses and overhead costs. No participant will be turned way based on financial constraints. Church members who support the church with annual dues may waive this fee at their option.
Our annual retreats have benefitted by a great deal of planning and volunteering. Those who have served in the past have recognized the shift in practice that comes about through such contemplative service. If you would like to help in organizing and implementing this year's retreat, your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Kim Gillis at kgillis@live.com for further information about volunteering, or questions about the retreat.
