Event Details

In this year of the 500 th anniversary of the Reformation, we invite you to enjoy a walking tour through the old city of Geneva and to learn about the unique history of the place that became a hub for a move of God. As you look back at over 500 years of history, and more, be inspired to see modern-day reformers rise up and become agents for city transformation in these exciting days.

First you’ll step back to the Middle Ages. As you traverse the cobblestone streets and narrow passages you’ll see the square that used to be a bustling marketplace. At the highest point of the hill you can enter St. Peter’s Cathedral while hearing about the groundbreaking societal transformations that Jean Calvin instituted and how Geneva lived out its motto—After Darkness, Light. And you won’t miss the impressive Reformation Wall that is 325 feet long and 30 feet tall. At the center loom the four reformers that radically changed a city.

Moving from the Reformation era into the 19 th century, you’ll make a stop at the Alabama Hall where the first Geneva Convention was signed. You’ll learn about the businessman from Geneva, gripped by the inhumane treatment of soldiers, formed the Red Cross and how it was birthed out of revival.

And if you need a break from all the history, there will be time for window gazing at some of Geneva’s high-end watch shops, buying some famous Swiss chocolate and enjoying lunch together.

On the second day you’ll visit the Palais des Nations—the European headquarters of the United Nations—and discover how the Reformation paved the way for Geneva, now home to over 200 international organizations (including the Red Cross), to become a city with global influence.

You’ll see the Human Rights Room, the grand Assembly Hall and the Council Chamber where many important historical negotiations have taken place. And, you’ll be able to attend the UNCA sponsored roundtable The Legacy of the Reformation in Geneva and the International Human Rights System at the United Nations.

With still so much more to see there will be an optional ½ day on day three. You’ll be able to choose from a selection of museums and landmarks to visit.
