Event description

Description

Nationally, an estimated 1.5 million lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) people are 65 or older, and that number is projected to double by 2030. A 2014 investigation by the nonprofit Equal Rights Center found that 48 percent of LGBT older couples faced discrimination when searching for affordable housing. William "Bill" Kelly is helping LGBT seniors find homes.

This screening of re’flect will spotlight Bill and his relentless will to help his fellow seniors. It will be followed by a brief discussion on how Bill is advocating for older adults who want to stay in their communities and not be forced back into the closet as they age.

Director Heidi Rataj will discuss the process of creating the re'flect series, why Bill was spotlighted and how this series is helping to promote older adults who are aging successfully in and around their communities.
