Refining Posture, a Feldenkrais Approach - for health care practitioners
Wed, May 17, 2017, 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM EDT
FOR PRACTITIONERS FOR WHOM POSTURE IS AN IMPORTANT COMPONENT OF THEIR CLIENTS' WELL BEING AND HEALTH
What is posture?
Is there such a concept of good posture? Bad posture?
Can posture be corrected? Should posture be corrected?
How can I help to correct someone's posture? My own?
Can a more optimal posture be taught effortlessly.
What is the Feldenkrais Method and how does its approach to posture differ from most methodologies?
To briefly answer these questions and to give you a better idea of what the workshop will cover, here is a little more information:
In the Feldenkrais methodology, there is no such thing as good or bad posture. Good posture is unique to each individual, their limitations, and to the specific functions that they engage in.
Therefore, posture should not be corrected in the usual sense, but rather, the consequences of postural habits should be explored so that one has an understanding of the different options available. It is this exploration that creates postural changes effortlessly.
Some theoretical as well as practical aspects will be discussed. Some practical exercises will be given to help with improving how we use our bodies to maintain healthy and pain free dynamic posture in sitting, standing, and walking.
I look forward to your joining us.
