Event Details

Refactor Camp 2016 will be held as an ONLINE ONLY event over 2 weeks, in the form of four 2-hour sessions devoted to specific topics within the broad theme Weird Political Economy. Each session will an associated pre-read slide-deck (posted a few days ahead of time on ribbonfarm) and be structured as a short opening "long lightning talk" of 20-30 minutes by the session moderator, followed by 90-100 minutes of moderated discussion.

There will be 4 sessions on the following dates. All sessions will be 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM in the evening, US Pacific Time.

  • Session #1: Tuesday July 19: The State of the State (Venkatesh Rao)

  • Session #2: Thursday July 21:  The State of Capitalism (Mick Costigan)

  • Session #3: Tuesday July 26: The State of the Crowd (Megan Lubaszka and Renee DiResta)

  • Session #4: Thursday July 28: The State of the Earth (Jordan Peacock and Sam Penrose)

The goal is to have somewhat deeper, more prepared discussions built around anchor texts and long-reads (recommended, but not required reading, will be posted on ribbonfarm), and a somewhat comprehensive overview slide-deck (required reading: don't sign up if you can't devote at least enough time to browse each slide-deck for 30-40 minutes prior to the session).

We will be using as our videoconference system which allows for up to 50 participants. Links will be sent out on the day of each session. You are welcome to have multiple people viewing at a given location, but please sign in from only one location per ticket.
